Oat Soup

Ingredients

45 ml olive oil
80 g oats
5 large tomatoes, halved and sliced
55 g onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
710 ml water, divided
0.5 bunch fresh cilantro
4 g chicken bouillon granules
3 g salt

Directions

Heat a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-low heat. Pour in the olive oil, and let it heat up. Add the oats; cook and stir until toasted.
In a blender or large food processor, combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic, 1 cup of water, and cilantro. Blend until smooth. Pour into the pan with the toasted oats. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of water, and bring to a boil. Mix in the salt and chicken bouillon. Cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Enjoy hot or warm.

What the rings would look like from different cities and latitudes accross the world. It's interesting to imagine how it would effect culture throughout time. It would have influenced religion, mythology, navigation, etc..
Personally, I think the blue hue of earth's atmosphere would partly be reflected in the rings. In the artists conception of what they would look like from space, they look exactly like they look on the frozen desert of Saturn. Correct me if I'm wrong.

After a brief warmup in 2008, the LHC, the most complex ever machine created by humans, is soaring again. The first beam was set afire on On 20 November 2009. A critical Helium leakage in its mammoth 27Km accelerator tunnel, which stays at a chilly 2.7K aka -270.5 C or cooler than outer space, brought the giant collider down to its knees and was rendered unoperational.

The engineers at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, attributed this failure to a misconnection in the circuitry. however, the recovery hasn't been as easy as rewiring the LHC. The giant circular electromagnets deployed at the LHC to propel particles to blazzzing speeds never reached before, need seasoning. The halt kind of lazed up the magnets and it is conjunctured that the accelerator would never reach its 7TeV energy mark. However, operating at 6.5TeV its still way powerful than its competition the Tevatron at Fermilab. Here is a brief timeline:

What's more, CERN expects to deliver significant data in a couple of years. The facility is expected to answer fundamental questions of physics regarding the origins of the universe, the nature of Gravitational force and what not. Never was it possible to smash particles that hard to create black holes, however tiny. A note here, Those of you guys who buy into the idea of doomsday due the blackhole sucking in the planet, please take a note that the blackhole happens to be smaller than anything observable even under the most powerful electron microscopes. And the smaller a blackhole the faster it evaporates, as per Hawking Radiation.

So lets wish CERN has a great time playing with its $4.5b toy. And also that I may be the blessed one to join the facility sometime. ;-)

A failed anti-depression drug may end the elusive search for the female version of Viagra.

During its initial clinical testing, flibanserin didn't cheer women up; rather, many who took it reported "an increased libido that they liked." This led to a series of studies in which pre-menopausal women in three countries went on a 24-week course of the drug and documented in a diary the intensity of their sexual desires and how many satisfactory sexual encounters they had.

Researchers found 100 milligrams a day of the drug resulted in "significant improvements" on both fronts relative to women who took a placebo. While Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medications work on the blood supply, flibanserin achieves its action on the fairer sex by heading directly for a female's sexually complicated brain.

Not only is this potentially great news for sexually bored women (and the men who want to have sex with them), but "The Flibanserin Diaries" would make for a terrific high-concept porn. Anyone have a contact at Cinemax?

I remember that day, night - literally, when a hostel mate of mine and I had a heated argument about Jobs. He was a big time fan, and I, an ignorant idiot. I never thought higher than MS, but how would I? I never saw anything apple. i stuck with MS for like 8 yrs. The day I got mac, I never cared to look back, not even on VMware.
But I guess my newly found inspiration in Mr. Jobs is getting stronger by the hour.

Apple Inc., Silicon Valley's most valuable company, is said to be under Job's tyrannical rule, but I guess its for the better. His obsession for aesthetics, which lavishly appear in Apple products, and simplicity holds mesmerized. The super-secretive approach to marketing, "don't let a soul know before it hits the shelf", gives it the unusual advantage of "Low on expectations but High on giving". Really, surprises double the joy.

You know what is my greatest fear these days? And I'm being super-honest.

Those that deride the Mac or Apple products as overpriced are just jealous that they can't afford better for themselves. It's like driving a BMW or any other highly refined product. You don't "get it" until you use it.

I know the Mac is better. I know the iPhone is better. I know it is better because those products are engineered to interact with humans. Engineered on a level that most people will never understand. Apple has applied study after study in the way humans *expect* information to be presented. Down to how the brain unconsciously interprets importance or significance. The reason Windows or any other copy-cat product is worse is because they applied changes without understanding what they were changing. Just because you have trained yourself, through years of UI abuse, to *think* Windows is easy to use, doesn't mean that it is. You've just learned bad behavior. Steve is the man.

Ok. I'm going to put it from my own perspective, but I may borrow stuff from these eminent men.

"How intelligent is Joe?

But hey, he was the most happening guy at the party yesterday.

Feeling deja vu? Most of us would, cuz we rate intelligence on scales as confined as the SATs. These 2000 superior thinkers have rightly came to the conclusion that Intelligence is not just this.
It is multi faceted. It has a LOT many perspectives, its the multiple-intelligence theory;

personal intelligence -the ability to get on with people and be your own best friend
physical intelligence- the ability to be an all round healthy individual)
sensual intelligence- the ability to use all your senses
spatial intelligence- the ability to negotiate three-dimensional space and handle moving objects
creative intelligence- the ability to think flexibly at speed, originally and with volume
spiritual or ethical intelligence- the capacity to have compassion, love and concern for others
and obviously, verbal and numerical intelligence- intelligence as we see today

I really like this little phrase or expression, if you will, so 'm quoting it here

Yea, that means UNIFICATION, somewhat. If you know of scientific history, you'll probably recognize this term. What newton did was the unification of apparently so unrelated phenomena of celestial and terrestrial mechanics. What Maxwell did is like pulling up a billion pieces and assembling a beautiful jig-saw. Einstein's work was no no-brainer, but essence was the explanation of more and more phenomena, UNRELATED phenomena, as light and electricity (yea, photoelectric effect) using lesser and lesser number of explanations. Today, this unification is the holy-grail of physics and is better known as the GUT or the Grand Unified Theory.

Ok. A lot of history. But the point is, WE ARE NOT AS DUMB, not even near to that, AS OUR GRADES INDICATE.
NO, I'm not starting that "This education System is Filthy" talks here (It remains filthy, though). But yeah, nations have begun to realize this. Read

Friends of mine, who scored moderately in classes, underestimated themselves. But as the time went on, I have seen them growing into so much more wonderful people than you can expect from grades. We, as people, are definitely more than taught industrial workers. We are intelligent. That tiny prank you played on your best friend that day is the evidence.

Today, brain is the real estate, its the essence of development. I guess the era of intelligence is right round the corner.

This time China has again come up with something. Remember those news that China was issuing Visas to Kashmiris on a separate paper and not on Indian Union Passport? Well, it has taken this a step further. Now it poses Kashmir as a separate nation. Even, Indian maps in China and Tibet have Kashmir denuded from India.

Whats their problem? They aren't bothering India any less than Pakistan. If Pakistan is hitting physically, China, diplomatically and its no better. If I just make a short list, disputes are;

China thinks Arunachal Pradesh does not belong to India, but China.
It has elaborate plans for constructing dams over the chinese sections of Brahmaputa. This would render the entire north-east of India dry and arid.
It has allegedly supplied nuclear tech to Pakistan and continues to supply arms and ammunition, well to hit India.
It has troubles with India's Agni V missile project that carries a nuclear war head and can strike up to 5000 km. However, its own arsenal has some of the world's most formidable weaponry.

And now this. According to a recent survey, 80% chinese people still regard India as an Enemy to watch.

Chinese rise has been the most spectacular ever. This fastest growing economy would take over Japan in 2010 to be the World's Second largest Economy. India continues to follow the pace. Its first time ever in human history that 3 asian nations are on the forefront of economy, ever more than European or American countries. The poles are shifting towards the east.

Would the History repeat itself? Would the cold war that marred the globe at the time of Russian and US uprising re-hit with China and India playing the roles?

I think Indian stance over China's aggressive policies has been too weak. What you say?

Wondering what this crap is. Well everything great looks this way in the patent office. Here is Nokia's recent patent application at the FCC (beware, its BORE but with awesome details into the workings). About what?? About Pressure Sensitive multitouch. And what the heck that means?? That means you can now push into the phone beside pinching to zoom or swirling fingers to rotate.

Nokia claims this gives the user a feel of intensity of touch. Also, now rather than multiple keys or gestures, you can just touch harder to perform different functions.

It wasn't long ago when I was discussing with Adi that Nokia is THE player in mobile market but hasn't any touch sensitive phones out there. It did hit with a bang with the not so successful 5800 and 5230

And then it hits HARD with Nokia N97. The uber touch phone.

Should this raise any expectations?? I don't know. But one thing for sure, the touch era is coming, and its coming all fast and good.

How do you like this new look of the Itsy-Bitsy?

There are a lot of new features in here.

1. Check out the cool slider on the top there. It features the latest posts and gives you a sneak peak into the blog.

2. Beneath it, well, I thought why not have a little eye-candy, so beneath it is a pretty zoom widget. Just hover on 'em and see.

3. The posts now look cleaner, or so do I think. The search now lets you find the desired post

4. The best of all: Everyone likes pics. Our garfield section is nothing but cool comic pics. But opening a new window to have a look at them.. not cool.
So here is the "FancyZoom" feature. Wanna know what it is? Just click on any image in the blog.

5. Comments.. they are the soul of a blog. So here is an overhaul. Commenting is now faster, easier and on the spot.. no need to log in into any damn thing.

6. The facebook Widget... speaking of update.. only you guys can do that not me.. by following the Itsy-Bitsy on facebook
Hope its up to the expectations. But nothing is perfect, and Itsy-Bitsy knows that well. It is evolving and would continue to.

But I need your valuable criticism to make it better.

Europa has sufficient oxygen to support complex life.

It has been known for a while that Europa has seas as deep as 100 Km under the icy cover (the deepest on Earth is 11 Km, Marina trench).

This discovery makes this chilled moon of Jupiter an even more formidable candidate in the quest for extraterrestrial life.

If we were to believe this Goldman Sachs report, since 1985 400 million Indians have managed to leverage themselves above the poverty line, making more than $5 per day. Maybe $5 counts nothing in the US, but desi guys will tell you Rs. 250 weighs quite a bit in the land of Poha and Chai.

However, 880 million still survive with less than $2 per day.
